What I Wore and This Old Tee Craft

One of my dearest friends and her boyfriend held an Art Day/Craft Night at their apartment a few weeks ago and it was mega super duper fun.

This is what I wore.

(necklace-buffalo exchange; shoes and cutout tee-urban outfitters; jeans-h&m)

But more importantly!! This is what I brought to Craft Night.

Some old t-shirts that were destined to become dust rags or getting donated, knitting needles, and beginner yarn to teach a darling friend how to knit.

The goal of my raw materials was to create t-shirt yarn to knit a mat to rectify this situation:

Because I have a pretty small dish drying rack and then limited counter space when I cook I always end up using dish drying rags as additional drying space…and I HATE using the rags. They’re really flimsy and thin; this is clearly not their purpose in life.

I figured a mat made of t-shirt yarn would be really absorbent and not leave my counter as drenched as the dish rags do, it would also be more attractive, and easy to clean as I could just throw it in the laundry to wash.

Friends, you know I’m bad at taking pictures in my real life so I don’t have the step by steps of how I made my yarn, but HERE is a handy video tutorial if you’d like to turn your tees into yarn.

P.S it’s REALLY EASY!

Now I really wanted to have a lovely finished product for you but alas I have to sacrifice another tee to make more yarn…sigh, which I don’t really have the time to do at the moment.

But voila! My almost finished dish mat :).

I kind of love it! The the knotty variety gives my mat a lovely texture.

And best part is recycling my own things, so free! free! free!

After this project I’ve decided to do other things with tee shirt yarn as it looks pretty great! If  you’ve done any crafty things with t-shirt yarn PLEASE PLEASE SHARE! Would love the inspiration.

And if any of you dear friends decide to take on this task be sure to let me know! I would love to see what you do :).
